Pulling into the parking lot, I looked for a familiar face. Afraid to go in alone—but more afraid of where my life could end up if I didn’t. On the outside, I seemed to have it all together. The inside was a different story. Unhappy at my job, my marriage, and in tears nearly every night, I needed peace. So, building up my nerve to walk into this church for the first time wasn’t a casual thing. I had to do this!
Finding a seat near the door, I scanned the room. Couples, young and old—happy.
I was sure it was too late in the game for me, but what drew me back week after week was the undeniable peace I felt when I walked through the door. If I could have just that alone, I would be okay.
With no clue where to even begin, I did one thing. I showed up just so I could feel that peace. Then I’d learn another one thing I could do. Without realizing it, one thing after another began to change my life.
But can I tell you one thing that really helped me?
I found out I wasn't alone.
Many of the women I saw in the congregation that first day became my closest friends. And you know what? They didn’t have it all together either. They had just been doing one thing at a time, a little longer than me.
So, if you’re like I was - thinking it’s too late in the game - it’s not!
It only takes doing one thing at a time.

The Bible gives us three great ones!
One thing…
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But ONE THING is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. ” Luke 10:38-42
…put Jesus first.

Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ “ And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.” So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack ONE THING. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. Luke 18:18-23
…follow Jesus.
One thing…
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also, laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but
ONE THING I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-13
…forget the past. And press on!
What
one thing
will you do today?
